Promoting your website content is one of the most important and probably one of the hardest things in making money online. Simply publishing content that represents value to potential visitors and advertisers in itself doesn't produce any results in itself - you need to make sure that it gets necessary exposure.
Traffic makes money online
Before you read any further you must understand one thing - you don't make money from simply publishing something on the Internet, you make money from putting something on the Internet and having people coming to see it. These people are called "traffic" and this is what makes you money. If there is one thing you learn from this website, this should be it - traffic makes you money on the Internet.
It is really common sense, but somehow most of the novices fail to realize this. Imagine you set up a store, obtained a good stock of products but have no visitors. Would you expect to make any money with that shop? Unlikely. Same thing with Internet business. Nonetheless, practically every novice in the online business has done this - built a website, published it on the Internet and then watched the statistics every two hours noticing that the only visits were from his own computer. I have done that - I admit it.
In any other business you'd close down, but online business is different in this way - the running costs are so low (or absent) that you can afford to keep it running even without generating expected income. But I will let you learn on my mistakes since probably you want to start making money as soon as possible.
Generating traffic
So, now we figured that in order to make money online one needs to generate traffic. How to generate traffic? There is about 1001 way to generate internet traffic. Some of them cost money and some are free. I will concentrate on the free ways to generate traffic as we are trying to earn money, not spend money.
